When Teachers Pray

A NEW STUDENT joined my classroom in January 2024, and almost immediately, we encountered a significant challenge with her daily nutrition. Day after day, she would stubbornly refuse to eat anything during meal times, surviving solely on a specific type of cookie that her worried parents would pack just to ensure she had some form of caloric intake. Her parents and I had several heartfelt discussions, brainstorming different strategies and trying various methods to help her develop better eating habits at school. We tried everything from offering a variety of options to gentle encouragement, but nothing seemed to break her rigid routine. It was difficult to watch a growing child go through the entire school day without proper nourishment, and we were all searching for a breakthrough.

This morning at breakfast, as the familiar pattern of refusal began to unfold, I felt led to take a different approach. I gently took her little hands in mine and simply prayed aloud, “Lord, please help her to eat something today, in the Name of Jesus.” What happened next was truly incredible. To our absolute astonishment, she picked up a full banana and ate the entire thing right then and there. The blessing didn't stop there; later at lunch, she willingly ate another half of a banana! My two classroom assistants were wide-eyed and completely amazed that she had consumed so much fresh food after months of resistance. I turned to them and told them to remember that I had called on the name of Jesus, and He completely showed His power in our classroom today. Praise God for His unending faithfulness and for caring about every detail of this little girl's life!
